Pateley Bridge: 08-11-2022

On this, the 137th anniversary of the discovery of x-rays, the NCVs were sent out, like a group of highly energetic photons, to penetrate and lay a hedge in Pateley Bridge. They had had an unexpected week off last week, thanks to poor Liz contracting covid, so they certainly had plenty of energy to put to good use.

Read on to see what the gang got up to...

Well - this (thankfully short) section of neglected hedge
is going to need some high energy attention.

Osian tackled it from the front...
...whilst Andrew attacked it from the rear.

Rachel crept up on it from underneath.
In the end it just had to be tidied up and left until
the builders sorted out the fencing at the back.

Never mind - plenty more needed doing.
At the Pateley Bridge end of the track wire fencing
needed removing to allow access to the hedge - FAR from easy!

However - once it was cleared  the laying could begin.

Oh hang on - what's in these boxes?

Ahhh! I see. Lots of little trees, kindly provided
by the Woodland Trust, just waiting to
be planted in the gaps in the hedge.

Well - at the scout hut end of the track there
was nothing but gap. It needed
clearing of brambles first.

Once cleared it was ready for planting.

Further along were three hawthorns to lay.
Liz and Ros E. got busy with the axe.

Little and Large looked on.

"I think that this one may go in that direction."

"Yes - thought so!"

Ooooo. That shouldn't have happened.
Never mind - it's still attached.

With a bit of jiggery pokery we can get rid
of the unwanted split ....

and lay the stem flat(tish).

Hawthorns laid - now to fill in the gaps. Very nice too.

The same thing was happening at the far end of the track.
just with a little less drama.

"Hey, Smiler. Where are you taking that?"

"Just over to the brash processors."

"Here's a monster one."

Brenda was pleased with that contibution - it weighed the pile down a treat.

Anita and Sarah made a start on a second
pile further down the track.
You lot look very happy.
Could it be anything to do with the two tins of cake
that were kindly provided by both Sarah and Paul?

In spite of all the hard work put in, there is still
a lot to do. To be continued next week......

Days of a bygone age no.4....

Now who have we have here? A young NCV playing air piano! Who could it possibly be? Take a guess and check it out next week.
