Millenium Green, Pateley Bridge: 29-11-2022

This week the NCV task day fell on National Giving Tuesday -  a day when everyone can do something to support the good causes that mean so much to them.

Well, as far as the NCVs are concerned, every Tuesday is a Giving Tuesday and this week they gave plenty of time and energy to support the environment, a cause close to all their hearts. They were back at Millenium Green to finish off planting the trees that were still queuing up to be planted, to lay the few remaining stems in the hedge and to knock the rather out of control willow tunnel into some kind of shape.

The photos below give you an idea of what went on....

Spades, spirals and saplings were taken up
with enthusiasm to begin with. However -

- as gaps to put them became a precious commodity,
and the ground was as hard as iron -
there were groans when yet more packs
of saplings were discovered.

The things that you dig up when you are planting a tree!
Anyone in need of a hip joint replacement?

Other NCVs set to laying those remaining stems.

Of course - you've guessed it - any brash
had to be added to last week's pile.

That's right Paul - don't forget to trim your stob.
Or forget to watch what you are doing!!

What are you three doing?

Ahh. I see - yet more wire fence in need of removal.

Now - what is everyone looking at during coffee time?

It was Liz - giving instructions for what to do next.
"You just take the stems and wind them
around each other."  "OK Liz, we can do that!"

Todays puzzle - Put a circle around each of
the 14 NCVs working in the willow tunnel?

There's one!
I can see another!

This one's easy to spot.

Loads of them hidden inside.

There's a head on top of a very tall body.
Must be Andrew.

Now then - stand back and take a look.
Impressive or what? Once the leaves fall
the remaining structure will be nicely visible.

As the tunnel was finished the fog descended
and the NVCs went into the Scout Hut to keep warm.

This little splinter group sat in the
cosy climbing wall side room.

Ros E. attempted to climb the wall and got
as far as the first row of footholds before
 deciding against going any further.

After lunch the final few trees were planted and everyone departed early. Good day's work folks!!

Days from a bygone age no. 5.... NCV revealed

Remember last week's challenge? Did you guess the NCV correctly? It was, of course, none other than our lovely Anita.

Then...

...and now
