Kex Moor Farm, Kirkby Malzeard: 20-02-2024

Give me an H.
 Give me an E.
 Give me a DGE.
 What have you got?
 Yet another HEDGE!!

Yes - it's that time of year. Another set of trees and another hedge to be planted. This time the NCVs were working at Kex Moor Farm, near Kirkby Malzeard. The number of saplings awaiting them was 1400 so let's get on with it shall we?

First job - fit 11 cars into a space that wasn't
really designed for that many.
With 16 NVCs out thank goodness
some walked, cycled or car shared!!

Next up - take all the resources
 to the work area.

Osian decided to go with the
 wheelbarrow option.

Uh oh. A mattock? Are you
sure we'll need one of those?
Landowner Adrian chose this moment
to mention that there were the
 foundations of a boundary
wall down one side of the field.
Hmmm. OK. Mattock it is.

Don't forget to get some of the trees.

Next set out the canes and spirals...

...and finally start putting
trees into the ground.

The field being rush pasture was
a bit of a clue that it was going
to be a muddy business.
Everyone was soon caked
from head to toe and all points in between.

Coffeetime could be taken out
in the wind and sun....

...or in the relative warm of the garage....

...along with a number of hens that
jealously guarded the entrance to the loo.
Come on ladies - out of the way.
I really need to get past!!

Wherever you chose to sit, there
were 4 different goodies on offer.
Thanks Emily!!

The bottom field was
completed by lunchtime.

Then there was the little
matter of the top field.

Here there was not only a
hedge around the edge....

...but also a plantation in the middle.
At least here the ground was NOT muddy.

Then, all of a sudden,
the job was at an end.

See for yourself!
