Plane Trees Farm, Blubberhouses: 09-01-2024

A new year and a new hedge.

Yes, the NCVs were back at work after their christmas break this week. Not laying an old hedge but planting a brand new one. They revisited Plane Trees Farm, at Blubberhouses, a venue where they had planted a new woodland last February. This time a hedge was planted along the field boundary. The weather was a less than tropical 1 degree C, which made for fast work - which was just as well given that there were over 850 whips to plant!

And here they all are - in action....

Andrew got stuck in the mud on arrival
and it took 7 NCVs to push him out.

Everyone was then issued with their new
'National Landscapes' emblazoned kit.

OK everyone - collect your hedge
 planting accoutrements.

That's it. Nice straight lines please Dave.

Well - that's fairly straight.
Just the odd little chicane or two.
It will do.

Let's hope this lot end up as straight.

Andy kept a close eye to make sure that they did.

Landowner Vicky made three different
types of cake to fuel the workers.
Thanks Vicky!!

Everyone could shelter from the extreme
cold in the large barn at break times.

Mick also added to the cake fest with
a boozy birthday cake. Thanks Mick!

Enough of eating goodles -
time to get back to work.
What's that? You are struggling to bend over?
Obviously eaten too much cake!!

That's it - job's done.
What's that? Not quite?
About 100 whips remaining?
Hmmm. Now, how did that happen if we
 stuck to the planting plan?
