 HERE WE GO AGAIN!!

This week the NCV tree planting machine was in action yet again. This time they were planting small saplings (so no deep digging), without those prickly cactus guards (hurray!!) at a new venue - Plane Trees Farm, Blubberhouses. Take a look below to find out how things went.

As soon as folks arrived Liz had them
 shifting resources - BEFORE 9:30am!!!

Some were heard to ask if they would get
 overtime for the early start.

Andrew couldn't resist a go on the suspended tyre.
What a swinger!

Liz explained the task but all Dave could think was
"When can I have a swing on that tyre?"

And then everyone got busy - the majority
depositing supplies of tree stakes and
tubes all over the field....

...while four got down to business adding 15m of hedge plants
along the fence line, adding to the 15m that landowner Vicki
had planted at the weekend.

By coffeetime that job was complete.

Elsewhere stakes were knocked in and tubes allocated.

No trees were to be planted along the blue line.
Eventually this will form a walkway through the
woodland.

Bang, bang, bang went Roger Red Hat.

Tap, tap, tap went Billy Blue Hat.

Lord and master Osian surveyed the
land and saw that it was good.

Brenda got on her knees to hide from his view
behind a tree tube, terrified that he would
find find fault with her work.

At last it was coffee time. Not only were there
chairs and a table, but ....

....there were also no fewer
than 3 cake choices!!
Three! That's right!
And a flushable toilet!
Thanks Vicki and Richard.

NCVs, fuelled by the cake feast, inserted
trees at a rapid rate of knots.

Willow, birch, oak, aspen, hawthorn and rowan
saplings were planted in groups of 3 all over the field.

Soon the job was all but complete
and everyone could break for lunch while
Liz went back to the barn for some extra
tubes and stakes for the last 25 trees.

And there you have it. A brand new, 300 strong
woodland (and that doesn't include the hedge).
A good job done at a lovely venue.
Well done NCV tree planting machine!

Days from a bygone age number 9

Now which NCV is being featured this week? Clearly a chap who enjoys entertaining. Take a guess and check next week's blog to see if you were right. You probably will be as he hasn't changed much!!
