Glasshouses: 07-12-2021

NCVs - where have YOU been??

Regular readers may have been wondering what happened to the NCVs last week. Why no blog? Were they not out working? If not - why not?
Well - blame Storm Arwen. What with the snow and icy conditions, along with the power cuts that were a result of the high winds, the task day was called off.

This week there were 450 trees that needed planting in Glasshouses, so, despite the fact that Storm Barra was imminent, the task went ahead. Here's how the group got on....

There were 2 areas to plant. First up was block 1 -
the top 1/3 of this steeply sloping field.

In no time at all lump hammers were being swung...
...and posts were being inserted.

Looking at the mass of tree tubes to be used,
Chris hoped that it wasn't just him that was on tube duty.

He needn't have worried -
Tubular Will came to the rescue.

Before long everything was ready and
waiting for the most important ingredient...

...and here it is - a bucket of trees!
Thanks Ruth.

In goes a spade and out comes the soil.

There you go little tree.
I hope you are happy there.

At coffee time there was the welcome sight of landowner Gill,
carrying a box of cakes.
Thanks Gill - they were yummy!

Julia looked on in envy at Chris,
perched on a nice comfy stool.

Paul had to make do with a lean.

1941 was a good year for woolly hats.
They made them twice the length of your
head to allow for brain expansion.

Not long after coffee, block one was
well on the way to being completed.

So the team moved on to block 2 - the top 1/3 of the next field....

...with another swathe down the side.
(Apologies for the general deterioration of the photos.
The bad weather and mud on the camera lens are to blame.)

OK folks - you have worked your socks off in grim weather to plant all 450 trees.
You have forgone your lunch to finish the task.
You may now go home early and have a hot bath!
